This course covers heating, ventilating, and air
conditioning (HVAC) and direct digital control (DDC)
system design and application. This course reviews air
handling, chilled water, and hot water systems control
for constant volume and Variable Air Volume (VAV)
applications. Commissioning of HVAC DDC systems
and various DDC open systems and protocols will be
reviewed. This course includes an optional field trip.
This course is structured to enable students to design and
understand HVAC DDC Systems Design and
application.
Topics include:
- The six steps of HVAC DDC system design
- Proper sequence of operations
- Critical dos and don'ts as well as the accepted
rule-of-thumb checks in HVAC control design
- Temperature, humidity and pressure controls,
DDC controllers, smart sensors and actuators,
application-specific controllers and most
commonly used HVAC control systems
Prerequisite: Minimum of two years HVAC-related
experience or an Associate Degree in a related field.
Field Trip: This course includes an optional field
trip to a most unique facility in San Diego.
